Burning DVDs

This is our really old VHS camcorder. We were feeling cool and technologically savvy ten years ago when we drove 50 miles to the nearest Best Buy and bought it. It was affordable and it was what we wanted to be able to tape all the cute things our baby was doing.
We have a nice little miniDV handycam now. It was quite a splurge five years ago. Now we have a box full of large VHS tapes and a box full of small miniDV tapes.
All this is very useless. Nobody watches these old videos, and they are just rotting away.

So we thought we'd burn the videos onto DVD's, right?

After some geeking and gadget hunting the solution ended up costing us about $250.00. It's a lot of money, but I think it will pay for itself in the long run. The investment in this device will enable us to preserve old movies, new movies and future movies as well as allow us to create DVD copies.

This is a pile of cables that I dug through trying to find a yellow-white audio video link so I could connect the old dinosaur camcorder to the new DVD burner device that you can see there behind the cables.

The only thing close was a yellow-only cable (see, it's in the picture there) and it did not work. So tomorrow we'll see if there's a yellow-white cable at the electronics store.

I just got off the phone with my brother. He called to get a little know-how into posting pictures on his new blog. He even managed to set up a flickr account tonight. AND he's downloading Firefox tonight. Wow.

Oh, yeah. If you are unable to view the embeded videos I've been posting please let me know. Some may take a minute or so to download, even with high speed internet. Most are around 10 mb.
