Snow Day
Poof! The day has come to a close and what have I accomplished today?
My boss called and asked me to finish a report while I was here at home, and though I knew the reality of that happening was slim, I somehow felt hopeful that I would be able to try. I did try. And it was in vain. There exists no chance of serious concentration on work when there are two energetic boys cooped up in a 1300 square foot house and they are either loudly laughing, arguing about who's fault something was, making indecent bodily sounds, begging to go somewhere because they are bored, scavenging in the kitchen for a snack because they are bored, and when they are playing games the sound from the game is enough to start a migraine, and if they go outside in the freezing cold they only stay 5 minutes and then they come in with cold, wet, muddy clothes which somehow end up strewn all over the 1300 square foot house, and then I have to nag them to pick up their clothes, keep their voices down indoors, stop making rude noises, stop fighting, be careful or someone will get hurt, get out of the pantry you just had lunch, get out of the cookies you can have some later, please come get your shoes out of the kitchen, wipe up this mud by the back door and yes - we will go somewhere this afternoon when the ice on the roads has melted.
Meanwhile I wrote a blog entries here and here.
After the boys nearly killed eachother from boredom and after I finished wrapping some Christmas presents (amazing how time consuming package wrapping is) we finally left the house.
Went to the Pier 1 and bought two red bowls and two red mugs.
Went to Target and splurged on gift wrapping tape and some blank cd's.
Then we went to the library for a couple of hours where for a little while we listened to some folk singer songwriters perform in the small library auditorium. One guy played a harmonium and sang Rumi poems. He told us to listen for the harmonium in the Beatles song Strawberry Fields.
Now we are back home and J is reading to the boys. We'll make glögg on Saturday. There is still a dusting of snow left, it is still cold outside. If it weren't so late I'd warm the glögg tonight...
