jag älskar dig
This morning when my chigger chewed-up 5 year old crawled into bed and snuggled under the covers next to me between me and my husband he asked me in his sleepy voice, "Mom, how do you say I love you in Swedish?"
"You say, 'Jag älskar dig,' " I answered, adding slowly the phonetic pronunciation, yawg ell-scar day.
He repeated the phrase to me, "Jag älskar dig, Mama" several times, and I lay there smiling and feeling the bright and warm sunshine of love that comes from a five year old son in the morning at 6 am when he says "I love You" in Swedish because he knows I understand what he is saying.
"Jag älskar dig, too, sweetie."
