Ambition and Accomplishments, Part 1
For the last few days, my head has had this really deep thoughts blog post brewing and formulating. I have the ambition to accomplish the writing of this post, the post that will be about ambition and accomplishments.
Really.
Really. When I moved to the US, many years ago, I was a 5th grader. Because mom had always spoken to us in English, and I always answered in Swedish, I was just as bilingual as ever. But when we moved to the states I had to start speaking English. I also began hearing people my own age speaking English and this was different from mom's English in that it contained a lot of younger generation expressions and more slang.
One of these expressions was "Really?" and it took a while for me to get it and not be totally put off and offended when someone would reply "Really?" to something I said. I mean, it sounded like they were second guessing me, like I was telling them a story, a lie, and by saying "Really?" it sounded like they were saying, "Yeah right, like I really believe that." Of course, saying 'Really?' is just an expression and it's meaning is more like, tell me more, what you are telling me is interesting.
