October 1
I LOVE OCTOBER!
This is the month when the air finally cools here, and this is the month when the colors of autumn explode on the trees and this is the month when the winds blow, when the sky seems higher and when I feel a lot of creative energy. There could be a year of Octobers and I would be happy.
Today is the first day of October and it started off early, with a quiet morning with J. While he had coffee I drank tea, decaf, at the kitchen table.
When he went out to get the paper he remarked about the pink sunrise. With my camera in hand I went out to snap a picture of the sky, though I thought it looked more orange-pink.
Later in the morning, after he'd gone to work, the boys and I headed to the soccer fields. Both boys have matches on Saturday mornings. It was breezy and nice, and someone asked me, "have you been losing weight?"
After soccer games we went up to Kaye's and hung out awhile before she had to go to an art class she promised to help teach. We brought Peper with us and let her run around off her leash up there at Kaye's. She stayed around the house - it's nice not to have to worry too much - until she started terrorizing the chickens! At one point I saw Tom as he streaked through the room, just a blur before our eyes, and swoosh out the back door and then start hollering at the dog, where in the garage two chickens had scampered up on some boxes trying to escapethe jaws of death Peper who was just trying to play a little!
It's relaxing up there at Kaye's. I had a cup of coffee, some of the best tasting coffee ever. Since I have omitted caffeine on this diet I'm on, it's quite a treat to enjoy the occasional cup of joe. Instead of milk I tried little soy milk instead. Not bad, and maybe even preferable over milk. While sipping the coffee and talking to Kaye and helping her iron some dyed strips of cotton muslin, the boys played quietly. Then I sat down on their new couch, a big soft cushy red couch. If I hadn't been drinking that coffee, I might have fallen asleep right there and then, it was so comfortable.
That's when the thing with Tom and the chickens and our dog Peper happened, and it was pretty much time to go anyway.
Isn't October 1st also a good day to bake cinnamon rolls?
