Sassafrass and Soccer and Shake's and 20 feet of Chicken Wire
Signs of spring are all over now. The backyard is green and lush already, the sassafrass trees leaves are busting out creating a light green veil between the blue sky and me. It's been warm enough for shorts and tanktops. Baseball games start next week and soccer season is officially over as of this morning. I love baseball season - going to the games and watching the kids play is one of my favorite things in the world.
All I know is today was a long day. We were up early birdy and went to soccer at 9 am, and right after soccer was baseball practice and then a baseball skirmish and then we had two whole hours until baseball practice again at 4pm. Before we went home we went to the Game Exchange where W bought a baseball gamecube game with some of his birthday money and then I treated the boys to an ice cream cone each from Shake's. We got home about 6:30.
It's light outside until about 8 pm now and that means I spend much less time here in front of the computer, keeping up with photo journals, blog writing and so on. Weird that I am "explaining" this, in a way.
The "Want To" list is being chiseled down, slowly but surely. The "Have To" list is what usually comes in the way, but sometimes I "have to not have to."
Peper, our little dog, has run down the back part of the garden, the part that is right next to the fence. She runs back and forth barking at whatever she thinks is on the other side of the fence and sometimes I think a mouse or a rat or a mole burrows back there. About 1/3 of the garden is just flattened dirt. Yesterday I bought 20 feet of chicken wire and some metal posts so I can somehow fence in the garden. The 20 ft of chicken wire is not enough and I'll have to buy more, plus about 6 more posts so the newly dug garden can also be enclosed. Next time I'll measure the garden before I go to the hardware store and guess how much chicken wire I might need.
All this is a want to and a have to. I need to drop the seeds into the new garden bed soon, hopefully within the next day or two.
