åååhhh vad trött jag är idag. Nu. Så här på morgonen.
I stayed up until after midnight reading The Grapes of Wrath. Needles. The river. Granma. Barstow. Hooverville..... I just kept reading. Had to keep reading. And I am a kind of slow reader. I would like to be able to - learn how to - read faster. From what I understand anyone can learn to read faster. There is a technique... I have to get over my habit of wanting to read every single word. Like I might miss something important if I skip a word somewhere.

Yesterday I fell asleep around 2 pm and didn't wake up until 4:30.. maybe closer to 5 actually. Oh, maybe I woke up a little bit now and then, but it was a foggy R.E.M awake. The kind of sleep -awake when dreams and the life around kind of blend together. So bizarre and comfortable at the same time. I guess I needed it. The sleep. The nap.

Speaking of R.E.M. This weekend, on Saturday actually, the boys were playing and being kids and all they have the occasional spat. They bicker. One has to dement the other. It just goes along with the process. I usually let them work it out on their own, and they usually do, without much intervention. So this Saturday I overheard part of the "discussion" between them. I hear the older one sarcastically tease the younger one about something... I don't keep track of these things. Anyway, I hear him say, It's The End Of the World... in a real sing-song voice, intended no doubt to push the younger one's buttons. I chimed in, singing the rest of the line, in that old familiar way, It's The End Of The World As We Know It, And I Feel Fine! Haha!! They thought that was great, and start repeating after me. It's The End Of The World As We Know It, And I Feel Fine! It's The End Of The World As We Know It, And I Feel Fine!
I have never owned an REM album, CD, tape, or anything. They were just beginning their climb to fame when I was in college, and I thought people who liked REM were really cool, but I had tapes of the likes of Led Zeppelin and Edie Brickell and Peter Gabriel.

So Saturday afternoon I took the boys to the library. One of the books they checked out was a photo picture book called "Natural Disasters." haha! And I checked out the REM CD with that song on it. It's The End Of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine! ) We listened to the CD and that song in the car on our way home. The boys joined happily in with the chorus, singing along la la la! I think they understand the irony. Afterall, children undertand tthe tone more keenly than the words.

Ohm.
