Fresh note
In about ten minutes I am going to bed as this three day Labor Day weekend draws to an end. I have just finished loading all the pictures I took this weekend on the computer - and it took about 9 hours - including three re-boots. ( I have an old computer that I have never upgraded or added anything to.)
We took off Saturday morning and drove west over to Talequah, Oklahoma for the Cherokee Nation National Holiday. You can check out the pictures I took there sometime later this week after I have time to get them posted. I think my favorite part was watching the gourd dance. The dancers, mostly men, move in a rythmic kind of pulse-bounce as they slowly walk in a kind of pattern around the center of the "field" that is roughly the size of an average backyard. Throughout they also rythmically shake a kind of rattle made out of a pop-can-sized metal container filled with ??? to make the rattle sound. Maybe a long time ago the rattles were made out of gourds. They also 'sang' in a humming- haaa-ing song, no words. It was beautiful and inspirational - and when the breeze blew or the warmth of the sun shone on our heads, it felt like even that breeze and those sunbeams were a part of the dance.
