Yesterday

We rode our bikes to the base of Mount Sequoyah and locked them together to a tree. Then we started up the hiking trail, through the hickory trees, the white oak trees, and the dogwoods. The air was comfortable and there was an ever so light breeze cooling us as it blew across the thin coat of perspiration on our skin. We walked through a few spiderwebs, but not many.
Wild flowers have long ago played their part for this summer, only a few goldenrod and white yarrow were spotted along the wooded trail. We listened to birds. Lots of birds.
Some of the loudest and most 'musical' birds are also the smallest and most difficult to see.

The bike ride, the hike, the fresh air, the birds, the trees, the spiderwebs, and the company all combined into a really relaxing and battery-loading day. Great cure for tension headache.

I am still reading the Grapes of Wrath. I may finish it out this weekend. Long weekend. Labor Day.
