Laundry
I try not to get to fired up over things I read in the news. That Karen Hughes quote got me at a moment when I could vent about it on this blog. Of course, I have never met Karen Hughes, Teresa Heinz, or Laura Bush. So how could I know enough to make any deductions of their intentions by what I read in the media? From personal experience I know the media misquotes, misspells, and definitely misinforms. Still, everything I wrote is still true. Except the part about the overflowing laundry basket.
Actually, I am married to a man who is fanatical about doing laundry. There is always a load in the machine, and another in the dryer, and a third load, clean and dry, being folded on our bed. I can't complain. I certainly don't complain. No, not even when he washes a new wool sweater of mine and shrinks it small enough for a gerbil to wear. I have lost more than a couple nice articles of clothing to his obsession. He washes clothes. He doesn't always read the labels.
Yesterday was a beautiful October day, blue skies, sunny, a little windy, and cool enough for a sweatshirt.
Z had a soccer game at 10:30 in the morning, but my brain was on vacation and I left the house at 9:22 in a hurry so we wouldn't be late, because I thought the game was at 9:30. When we realized the dum-dum we were almost there and instead of heading back home I took Z to Arsagas and ordered a tea, while he had a water and a cinnamon roll. When we left we ran into Ike and Julie, the Coolest Couple on Earth. Eventually we were back at the soccer fields, at the correct time, but there were no other kids there. We waited and waited, no one came. Finally we gave it up and went to the grocery store.
The rest of the day I didn't spend much time in front of the computer, but the energy had kicked in and I took to the task of cleaning out the pantry.
That is such a great feeling! A cleaned out pantry! You should try it sometime.
In the afternoon I took the boys to the library. The idea was to allow John some extra quiet in the house so he could try to catch up on sleep (he had just worked a double shift - which is 48 hours, or more than a regular work week to you and me.)
At the library we happened upon a magic show in the new "meeting room," which we didn't expect. Of course the boys wanted to stay and watch so we did. Unfortunately the library closed shortly after the show and we didn't have much time to browse. We'll go back later today.
For dinner last night I made an awesome salad, red potato and garlic mashed potatoes, and pork chops in an oven bag. We set the table outside on the patio and ate our dinner outside.
Then, while I washed the dishes (because I like to do dishes as much as J likes to do laundry) the boys played in the backyard
and listened to the Razorback game on the radio.
Later, after baths and bedtime for the kiddos, I stayed up a while and sat on the couch and knitted.
J was so tired I went to bed by 9 pm.
Now it's Sunday. J has already gone back to work (regular schedule.) I got up early with him and we enjoyed oatmeal and conversation in the quietness of the morning before the kids woke up. Now the kids are awake, the sun is up, and the house is coming to life again. W has complained that the toothfairy only brought him one dollar for his tooth. I told him to write a letter to the toothfairy and express himself directly.
Oh yawn. I have plans to finish the school's PTO newsletter today, complete the indian pants for Z and maybe go back to the library later this afternoon.
The Vitamin B's are making a difference.
