Real Life. There Isn't Always A Point At The End Of A Blog Post.

Some days, at the end of the day, when I have shut my eyes and might be thinking about the events of the day, I may recall a lesson learned, a bit of knowledge gained, maybe even a turn maneuvered without skidding off the road of life. Other days I coast.

Today I got up early and went to the grocery store. The time was something like 7:30 am. I went before I had breakfast and before the coffee was made. Can't remember ever going grocery shopping that early before.

When I got home the boys were awake and the coffee was made. The boys had already eaten cereal, they had finished the last of it, and I realized I had not bought cereal while I was grocery shopping. Wasn't on the list.

W started asking me around 9 o'clock if we could go to the library. I said sure, we'll go at about 10:15 so we can make it to Story Time. Um, no, mom, I don't want to go to story time.
I realize of course that he wants to go to the library so he can play games online. The new library is the new arcade, at least for my poor child who is deprived of broadband internet at home.

We left at 10:25 and made it just in time for Story Time. A local author was reading from one of her books.... Unfortunately her delivery was such that several of the children (all under the age of 10 or 12) became restless after the first 15 minutes. Though embarrassed to do so, I gave in to my kids' pleading to leave - only after three other parents had already gotten up and left with their kids before me. As far as reading aloud to a group of young children go, this author read rather dryly. Monotone. Unanimated. No audible differentiation in the voices of the characters... Though I am certain the story she wrote was well-written.

In the back of my mind I wished that I had stayed home and watched the Saturday morning episode of Everyday Food that comes on at 10:30.

After we left Story Time, the boys played games on the computers and I tried to download the latest Mac X OS updates. It took 2 hours to download 88% and then it just quit. When I logged on again it started over... I gave it up, not in the mood to wait another 2 hours. Z played a castle building game on Imaginext. We had to go to Imaginext Sweden because we couldn't find that particular game the US site. When the boys' internet time expired I read them the first four chapters of Mary Pope Osborne's Revolutionary War Wednesday.

When we left the library and headed home I decided to swing by La Maison des Tartes to treat the boys to a "haven't had lunch yet so here is a yummy snack because no way are we going to McDonalds" snack. To my delight I discovered that La Maison des Tartes offers wireless to their patrons so guess what, I fetched my computer from the car, connected, and viola! In less than 10 minutes I had the Mac X OS updates and my latte was still hot.

The boys each ate a bagel with cream cheese then W went back and bought two additional pastries - delicious round tartes filled with potatoes and cheese.

Eventually we made it back home.

I baked Semlor. They will be filled with yummy almond filling and topped with fresh whipped cream tomorrow.

For dinner we had baked cod. I made a green bean side dish roughly based on the "Everyday Food" recipe online.

Z drove his remote control Jeep truck in the ditch (earlier this morning before we went to the library) and it shorted out the battery connections. We worked on trying to dry out the battery compartment and replaced the batteries but it didn't work until late this evening after it had been sitting out in the backyard sunning and drying out for a while. Right now he is driving it around in the house and Peper is barking and chasing after it.

W is mastering the levels of a Star Wars game.

I just finished uploading a few pictures taken today. You can go to my Flickr Pictures
if you would like to see them. I could insert links to them here, but I am going to tackle the dishes in the sink instead.
