Fresh Pot of Coffee at 5 p.m.
While the coffee is brewing:
In just a few minutes we will head out the door and drive to wrestling practice. But the boys (especially W) do not want to go. We've missed the last two weeks (really only 3 practice nights) because of illness, holidays and two times when J had the boys with him on a day outdoors in woods. Previously they were all about going, loved it, couldn't wait. Now, it's worse than ho-hum. It's complete resistance.
So I am offering them the "Give it one more shot" policy waiver. I hate to push them to do something they honestly don't want to do, but at the same time, I don't feel comfortable condoning missing practice on the basis of "I'd rather stay home and watch TV."
Besides, there is a school board meeting tonight, and it will be held conveniently in the building right by where the wrestling practice takes place. I really want to go to this meeting too. It's the public comment meeting on the heated topic of school district re-zoning. The board is preparing to re-zone our school's district, and as it stands, the lines have been drawn quite exactly, on the roads separating the high incomes from the low income neighborhoods.
If the zoning goes through, the all the PTO officers (except one) at our school would be rezoned to the higher income area. Sad, but true, the higher income parents are often the ones with the time, and money, to 'get things done' with the PTO. I don't know all the reasons why we don't have more representation from some of the middle - lower-income parents, but it is what it is. We'll hear tonight what some of the comments will reveal.
Coffee has finished brewing. Mmm, smells great. To-go cup, let's go!
