Saturday in Eureka!
After photographer Joe got some portrait shots of us around the War Eagle Mill we drove on to Eureka Springs for some lunch and strolling around.
The first thing we notice as we drive into town is that the Dogwood Inn has burned down. Wow. What a sight. This is the motel where John's family always stayed when they came up every year, for the last 25 years, in October for the War Eagle Arts and Crafts Fair.
It was pretty crowded in Eureka on Saturday. We ended up finally finding a place to park on the far end of Main Street. We had enough quarters for an hour so I went in to the Palace Hotel and Bath House to get some change for a dollar.
Here is a photo of the reflection in the glass door to the Palace Hotel. Can you see the hotel desk attendant in the dark shape that is my reflection? Kinda like a ghost. Eureka Springs is said to have lots of ghosts. I don't know about that, but there are lots of hills, a shops, and colorful maple trees in the fall!
The boys are waiting by the car for me to return with the change for the meter maid.
Eureka Springs is such a neat town. The old houses are a part of the rocky hillsides and almost all of them are built in the Victorian architectural style.
This is a view of the street where we parked. It is a less travelled part, most of the tourist shops are down the hill a bit.
The boys were starving to death and all the restaurants were packed . Finaly we found a little place where we cold even sit outside and eat...
Did I mention all the leaves all over the place?
W is mulling over the menu.
Z is admiring the blue jay feather he found on the sidewalk. He is telling us that he wants to find more feathers so he glue them on arrows.
After lunch we headed back to the car, but not until we had stopped in the toy store. Z scored a bag of army men. It warmed up a bit too. A nice warm 80 degree NOVEMBER day.... yeah, I'd roll my corduroys up too.
Later in the evening the army guys have fought and fought and finally conquered flags.
I asked our dog to smile for the camera and she just layed down on the rug facing the opposite direction.
Did I mention the fall colors? This is the maple in our front yard.
Leaves on fire.
